An over-the-top swing is one thing many golfers wrestle with. It’s frequent amongst newbies, and even for skilled gamers, it may possibly creep into their swing and trigger points.

When newbies swing excessive, it often leads to an unpleasant slice. It’s disheartening and one thing that may take them years to develop out of. And when skilled golfers come excessive, it leads to a steep swing airplane and inconsistent contact, sapping them over energy and making a litany of different points.

Despite this being such a typical swing fault, it’s not a straightforward problem for many golfers to fix. However, it doesn’t have to be. As GOLF Top 100 Teacher Jonathan Yarwood explains within the video beneath, all you want to do to eliminate an over-the-top swing is altering the way in which you shift your weight.

When you’re coming excessive, it’s often as a result of the sequencing of your weight shift is off. From the highest, you will usually shift the load to your toes in your path foot and towards the heel within the again foot. If you need to fix it, all you want to do is shift your weight the other manner.

“Really good players do the opposite,” Yarwood says. “They push from their right heel or the middle of their right foot into their front toes slightly in transition.”

Instead of spinning out of the shot from the highest, as an alternative strive to shift your weight diagonally alongside your goal line. Start with the load in your path heel and shift it into your entrance toes.

“As a result, the club gets into what we call a shallow position,” Yarwood says. “That allows the body to stay closed for a fraction of a second, which shallows the club.”

If you need to get the correct feeling on the vary, strive making some swings along with your path toe and your lead heel off the bottom. This will enable your path arm to work down your chest and shallow out, which can assist your swing airplane to turn into extra in-to-out.

“Start getting that pressure moving better in a more diagonal fashion and you’re going to shallow your downswing,” Yarwood says. “You’re going to hit it a thousand times better.”
