Anthony Davis Seemingly Caught Off Guard by LeBron’s Retirement Hints

When LeBron dropped his retirement hints after the Lakers Game 4 loss, it appeared his teammate Anthony Davis was left at nighttime about it.

Judging by what AD mentioned in his postgame press convention, he was beneath the impression that, like him, James can be returning subsequent season and the pair can be making an attempt to win one other chip collectively.

“We don’t know what team we have next year,” Davis mentioned. “But no matter it’s, whoever we’ve coming to coaching camp with the mindset of constructing that chemistry, constructing that basis, me and LeBron setting the tone, making an attempt to get again right here and additional.

“Yeah, we know the window is always small and obviously he’s not getting any younger. You know, this is why this was so important to both of us, and it hurts that we didn’t get it done. But you know, we regroup, figure out ways we can be better. Figure out ways I can be better, more consistent for our ball club and we come back next year ready to go.”

It doesn’t actually sound like anybody gave Davis a heads up about LeBron’s retirement hints in his earlier press convention.

“Davis, when informed by ESPN about James’ postgame comments following Monday’s loss, was surprised to hear them at first,” ESPN’s Dave McMenamin wrote. “Like James, Davis is beneath contract with the Lakers for subsequent season — one in every of just a few gamers with offers on a roster that would see lots of motion this summer season.

“But after contemplating the remarks a bit of longer, Davis recalled a latest dialog he had with James when he instructed James he ‘might have one more in me’ when speaking in regards to the 2024 Olympics in Paris. James instructed Davis he may already be achieved by then. Davis, considering James misheard him, defined he was speaking about USA Basketball subsequent summer season, not 2028 in Los Angeles.

“James reiterated to Davis that he could have already hung up his sneakers by next year’s Olympics.”
