Charles Leclerc favourite to take pole in Abu Dhabi

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc is hopeful of getting an excellent weekend on the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after topping the timesheets throughout the second free apply on Friday.

The Monegasque set the tempo in the second apply session, popping out on prime regardless of two pink flags disrupting the motion.

The 26-year-old Leclerc had secured just a few pole positions this season however the lack of changing poles to win has been his largest weak point

He stays optimistic that the automobile shall be faster this weekend.

“Yeah, because I only did one lap on the medium [tyre] then straightaway a lap on the soft and it was feeling pretty good. It’s a good sign when it starts like this, so [I] hope we can have a great weekend from now on,” Leclerc stated on Friday.

The five-time F1 winner stays cautious of the problem posed by Mercedes, with George Russell having led the way in which in the day’s first apply hour.

“It’s true that also Mercedes looked very strong,” the Scuderia driver added. “I don’t know what happened exactly in FP2 – they looked a little bit less strong compared to FP1, so we’ve still got a lot of work to do because we will be fighting with them this weekend,” stated Leclerc.
