Proteas Test coach Shukri Conrad was delighted with the efficiency of Dean Elgar and debutants Nandre Burger and David Bedingham in a record-breaking win over India.

Conrad feels that Elgar had additional motivation and took his dogged strategy up a notch in a fantastically combative 185.
“Maybe the retirement decision had everything to do with the way he played… I thought Dean was phenomenal,” Conrad mentioned.

“Then clearly Dean’s swansong. Dean will captain the aspect. I feel I have to add, if there was this frosty relationship, he wouldn’t be captaining.
“I feel the fellows will actually be up for it… there’s a collection to be received.
“Series wins are special, especially series wins against India, and then we can send Dean off properly – that would put the cherry on top for us.”
