Filippo Zana (Jayco-AlUla) has received the Tour of Slovenia after he got here in second within the final stage received by Matej Mohoric (Bahrain Victorious).
The 142.6-kilometre stage between Vrhnika and Novo Mesto was Mohoric’s first victory on the Tour of Slovenia. He was within the lead in some key segments of the route, particularly on the climb up Trška Gora, not removed from the end line. Zana was the one one in a position to preserve tempo with him.
Zana fell behind on the descend, however Mohoric waited for him and edged him within the remaining dash in Novo Mesto.
“It was very hot and the final climb was very hard,” stated Zana. “Mohoric attacked, and I tried to follow but it was very difficult. I took it a bit easier after my crash yesterday, and thankfully Matej waited for me at the bottom of the climb and we went to the finish together. He won the stage and me the GC, it was perfect”
