Forced to join Pirates over Chiefs: ‘I cried that night’

Despite his desperation to play for Kaizer Chiefs, Mthembu was pressured to join Pirates towards his needs.

“It was hard [when I left Chiefs], I think I cried that night because I didn’t want that to happen. All I wanted was to play football,” Mthembu added.

“I went to Pirates however I ran away once more and I went house. I received a name saying, ‘If you want to play football come. If you don’t need to play soccer anymore, you’ll be suspended for 3 years. I didn’t know something about suspension and I simply wished to be at Chiefs. So I spoke to Bobby and Kaizer [the Motaungs]. Credit should go to them, they sat me down and advised me this stuff occur in soccer.

“They said just go and enjoy football, if you come back again, you will come back again,” the present Pretoria Callies striker concluded.

A RETURN TO AMAKHOSI

Mthembu additionally lasted two seasons at Pirates (one on mortgage at Bloemfontein Celtic), earlier than leaving to join Golden Arrows, Platinum Stars and eventually Kaizer Chiefs in 2014 till 2017.
