Former coach slams understrength Proteas Test team

In a notable transfer, Cricket South Africa finally put the profitable SA20 competitors forward of the Test sequence towards New Zealand, with the squad chosen notably lacking the vast majority of the Proteas’ big-name gamers.

The squad – to be captained by Neil Brand – will depart for New Zealand from OR Tambo International Airport on Friday, 19 January, and former coach Mark Boucher instructed SportsBoom.com that it was an unacceptable schedule conflict that has led to this example.

“I’ll be honest with you. I am extremely disappointed,” Boucher stated. “It’s received nothing to do with the gamers. You can’t blame the gamers which have been chosen or the gamers that aren’t going. I believe the scheduling must be checked out by CSA, I don’t suppose it’s acceptable.

“If I was New Zealand Cricket, I’d be quite disappointed. I understand them not wanting to pull out as well because the World Test Championship points are at stake,” he added. “But I do suppose that we in SA want to sit down down, have a tough take a look at ourselves, on the scheduling, and discover a approach to make it proper.

“SA20 is good for the public watching. It is very well supported, but we can’t have that in place of a Test series against a very, very strong New Zealand team away from home.”
