Former Lions loosie Ruan Ackermann on England radar

England have held talks round enjoying a wild card for his or her World Cup marketing campaign and calling in former Lions free ahead Ruan Ackermann.

Ackermann, who was a part of the Lions aspect that hosted the Super Rugby closing in 2017, has been plying his commerce at Gloucester since 2017.

The 27-year-old performed for the South Africa ‘A’ aspect in 2017, however now qualifies to play for England on the residency rule.

Knee damage

Ackermann picked up a knee damage that ended his home season throughout Gloucester’s Champions Cup round-of-16 loss to La Rochelle on 1 April.

However, Gloucester head coach George Skivington confirmed that he has held talks with England head coach Steve Borthwick over a possible call-up for England.

“He is in the England conversation and his form and work he has put in is the reason for that,” Skivington stated.

“Ruan does want surgical procedure, however the scans confirmed it wasn’t as dangerous because it may have been and the knee has to quiet down. It was that 150kg man rolling by way of his knee – and that might have completed most of us off.

“We gained’t see him once more this season, however we’ve got our fingers crossed that the restoration gained’t be an extended slog like we’ve got had with quite a few different gamers.

“He is a tough character but, like all of us, he is pretty devastated about it. This is the first one that while it isn’t malicious, it was sloppy. It has hurt us and also Ruan because he is on the edge of that England fold.”
