Hamilton ‘pushing hard’ for F1 to come to SA

Lewis Hamilton says he’s pushing for Formula One to return to South African within the coming years.

The 38-year-old Mercedes driver has been vocal through the years about bringing F1 to the African continent.

Speaking to ESPN on Thursday, Hamilton mentioned his dream was to race in South Africa.

“I have been shouting about having a race in Miami and the next one I’ve been talking about is (the race in )South Africa and that’s what I’ve been pushing for in the background. So hopefully you’ll see that coming to light soon,” he mentioned. 

“And that’s an actual huge dream for me to race in South Africa, and in Africa throughout my profession and I do know I’ve an enormous following on the market(in South Africa).

“I know a lot of people are into Formula One now in South Africa.”

Asked how he would deliver F1 to Africa, Hamilton mentioned he’d been speaking to Stefano Domenicali (CEO of Formula One Group).

“I’m pushing as hard as I can in the background. Going high up [to the F1 bosses] to make sure we have that race happen.”

The seven-time Formula One world champion touched on his objective to deliver Mission 44 to the African continent.
