Jay Vine: It’s unclear what the team’s plan is

Jay Vine appears somewhat misplaced at the Giro d’Italia after his probabilities of a superb normal classification had been compromised by a crash.

“Whatever the team decides, I’m happy with it,” he says. “I’m going to stay with Almeida. I’m here for the team now.”

“It’s unclear at the moment what the team’s plan is,” Vine says. “They tell me I can probably still fight for a top 10, but I personally don’t care. In an ideal world I lose another 45 minutes and then I can go for stage victories. But I’m going to stay with Almeida and try to get him on the podium.”

“That is worth nothing to me. I signed for four years with this team and part of the terms was that I finished in the top 10 a number of times. Maybe that’s good for the team and social media, but personally I don’t care.”
