Leclerc handed a three-place grid penalty for F1 Sprint

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc was handed out a three-place grid penalty for right now’s F1 Sprint on the Austrian Grand Prix after stewards discovered him responsible of impeding Oscar Piastri within the shootout qualifying session. After Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz secured a second and third place beginning slot for tomorrow’s Austrian Grand Prix, Ferrari seemed to be on the tempo in right now’s shootout qualifying once more. The stewards said: “The driver of Car 81 said that as he approached Turn 9 he noticed that Car 16 was travelling slowly and needed to brake, decreasing his velocity by roughly 45 km/h over the earlier push lap. This was verified by the Stewards referencing the telemetry of Car 81. It was confirmed Car 81 misplaced roughly 0.5 of a second in that minisector (5.3s v 4.8s).

The driver of Car 16 said that the final name he had from his group was when he was approaching Turn 4 (“Piastri 6 seconds”) and that he noticed Car 81 in his mirrors as he was in Turn 8 and Car 81 was in Turn 7.

The Team Representative of Car 16 said that the group “could have done better” in speaking the fast strategy of Car 81 and its drivers said that “If I had been warned I could have done something earlier”. Accordingly we decide that though this was not totally the fault of the driving force, and that the group’s lack of communication was the foremost contributing issue, a grid place penalty have to be imposed,” the FIA assertion learn.
