Marcus Allen on why kickers and quarterbacks make the best golfers

The NFL Hall of Famer and Super Bowl XVIII MVP loves golf a lot, he’ll play with nearly anyone. Even kickers.

G: What is it that pulls you to the sport of golf?

MA: Well, initially, it’s the drive to enhance, to get higher. I’m all the time striving for consistency, which, for me, is sort of an impossibility. [Laughs.]

G: That’s just about the identical for everyone.

MA: And then from a social standpoint, it’s simply the best sport for fathers and sons or brothers or associates to have the ability to get pleasure from spending time collectively, strolling and speaking and difficult one another. And it’s an outstanding alternative to enter into and develop relationships as a result of you will have 4 hours to take action.

G: Right, and that’s onerous to do on the soccer discipline.

MA: Yeah, my job was to run away from individuals!

G: What’s your idea on why kickers and quarterbacks appear to be the best golfers?

MA: Because they don’t get hit! [Laughs.]

G: I suppose that’s true. So they don’t find yourself with as many accidents.

MA: Man, they hardly take part in any bodily exercise aside from perhaps video games. But while you’re operating the ball, you’re getting hit. When you’re blocking, you’re getting hit. When you’re going up and catching the ball, you’re getting hit. So ours is a really difficult sport from that standpoint. Lots of hitting.

G: There positive is.

MA: The quarterbacks put on yellow jerseys at follow so no person by chance hits them. And you wanna speak about kickers! They don’t even go to conferences! [Laughs.]

G: Did you tee it up while you had been in the NFL?

MA: No. I didn’t take up golf till later in my profession. I used to be centered on soccer one hundred pc. But I stay up for taking part in this sport for the remainder of my life.

G: Is there one thing you had been nice at doing on the soccer discipline that has helped you on the golf course?

MA: I assume I’d say focus and willpower. Those are helpful traits to have on the golf course. Especially with my sport!

G: I do know loads of you Hall of Famers play collectively while you’re in Canton for the yearly summer season enshrinement ceremony. If there was an official Pro Football Hall of Fame event, who would win?

MA: Oh, my goodness. I’m unsure. Maybe Marshall Faulk or Eric Dickerson.

G: Running backs! I assume there aren’t too many kickers in the corridor.

MA: That’s true.

G: Where would you set Marcus Allen in that discipline?

MA: [Laughing] Ascending!
