Massa seeks compensation over Lewis Hamilton’s 2008 F1 title

Former Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has taken authorized motion in opposition to Formula One and the FIA over his misplaced F1 title in 2008.

The 42-year-old Brazilian is looking for substantial damages ensuing from an alleged ‘conspiracy’ that denied him the 2008 championship which was finally gained by Lewis Hamilton.

Massa initially wished the 2008 Singapore GP outcomes cancelled after former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone admitted that he knew Nelson Piquet Jr intentionally crashed to assist then-Renault teammate Fernando Alonso win the 2008 race.

The former F1 driver’s attorneys alleged there was a “conspiracy” that denied him the 2008 title.

“Simply put, Massa is the rightful 2008 driver’s champion, and F1 and FIA deliberately ignored the misconduct that cheated him out of that title,” stated the letter, seen by Reuters.

“Massa is unable to totally quantify his losses at this stage, however estimates they’re more likely to exceed tens of tens of millions of Euros.

“This amount does not cover the serious moral and reputational losses suffered by Massa.”

The Brazilian believes his is rightful 2008 driver’s champion

The letter was addressed to Formula One CEO Stefano Domenicali, who was Massa’s crew boss at Ferrari, and Paris-based FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

After the 2008 season, Massa has by no means challenged for the championship and even win a race. He ultimately retired from Formula One in 2017.
