Mercedes have introduced a new collaboration with automotive technology firm Luminar that can assist to develop a laser detection system for the Mercedes F1 security automobile.
The partnership will leverage Luminar’s present improvement work with Mercedes-Benz to combine its technology into the Official FIA F1 Safety Car, with that work starting in 2024.
LiDAR, Light and Detection Ranging, makes use of lasers to create a extremely detailed 3D map of the surrounding setting and matched with its AI software program uniquely allows exact object detection at larger speeds and below antagonistic driving situations.
The technology is constructed from the chip-level up and at a better wavelength that enables it to see street particles up to 250m and objects up to 500m forward.
