Former New Zealand quick bowler Shane Bond has been appointed as the brand new head coach of the Paarl Royals SA20 staff.

The erstwhile New Zealand fast takes over from former Proteas star JP Duminy in the coach role.

Duminy left the role to take up a place because the full-time Proteas batting coach.
“It is a new challenge for me personally to be heading to the SA20, but what gives me the belief is the strong squad we have been able to assemble for the upcoming season,” Bond mentioned in a press launch. “We have so much experience and immense potential in our ranks, which makes me excited to join the group in January and work towards achieving our target of lifting the trophy.”

Experienced in the sector
Bond has beforehand labored as a coach for quite a few groups, most notably as the top coach of MI Emirates in the ILT20 and because the fast-bowling coach for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL, the place he received 4 titles between 2015 and 2020.

Bond resigned his duties in the ILT20 and the IPL final month to be a part of the Royals Sports Group, and was introduced as the brand new assistant coach and fast-bowling coach of the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL in October 2023. Royals’ director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara mentioned of Bond: “The inaugural season provided us with a lot of learnings after our semi-final finish, and we believe that his experience, commitment and vision align well with our goals for the upcoming season.”
