Nienaber back for World Cup hat-trick?

Erasmus will tackle duties as Springboks head coach.

Jacques Nienaber has been linked with a return to the Springboks as soon as he completes his shift with Irish membership Leinster.

Nienaber signed off from the Springboks after serving to to information South Africa to a profitable World Cup title defence and can now be a part of eight-time Vodacom URC winners Leinster in December.

When the Springboks touched down in South Africa from the World Cup, Nienaber stated throughout a press convention at OR Tambo International that he was open to returning to the setup.

According to Sunday newspaper Rapport, Nienaber’s contract with Leinster runs till June 2026, one month earlier than the beginning of that 12 months’s Test calendar.  Therein lies the chance for Rassie Erasmus to recall Nienaber to the Springboks in time for the subsequent World Cup in Australia in 2027.

In the meantime, Erasmus is about to tackle the duties as head coach, with nearly all of South Africa’s teaching employees having prolonged their contracts. Only assistant coach Felix Jones has departed to take up a task in Steve Borthwick’s England administration staff.

Erasmus reportedly already has a listing of names that he’ll current to SA Rugby to interchange Jones and Nienaber (defence coach).
