Piastri signs multi-year extension with McLaren

Oscar Piastri will proceed racing alongside Lando Norris within the coming season after McLaren confirmed a contract extension with the Australian driver till the tip of 2026.

Following a contract saga, Piastri joined McLaren in late 2022 on a multi-year contract, making his debut for the staff on the Abu Dhabi Young Driver Test. The former F3 and F2 champion turned the fifteenth driver from Australia to compete in Formula One.

The Australian has scored a complete of 42 factors and occupies P11 within the drivers’ standings. He scored his first factors in Round 4 on dwelling soil in Australian, having collected factors in Monaco, Silverstone, Budapest, Zandvoort and Singapore. He is but to complete on the rostrum in a grand prix, however he grabbed a second place within the Spa F1 Sprint.

“It’s fantastic to confirm that Oscar has signed a multi-year extension with the team,” stated Team Principal Andrea Stella. “Oscar is an asset to McLaren and consistently impresses with his efficiency, work ethic and angle, so it was a straightforward choice for the staff to make.

“He has already proved pivotal to the team, so it’s brilliant to have his vote of confidence as we push to win championships again in the future. I look forward to seeing him develop with us as we continue this journey together.”

McLaren CEO Zak Brown added: “I’m delighted to be persevering with our partnership with Oscar by to the tip of 2026. He’s an unimaginable expertise and an asset to the staff so it’s improbable to be committing to one another in the long run.

“Oscar is already proving what he can do out on track and has been instrumental in the turn around we’ve had so far this season. He’s fit into the team brilliantly and is really valued by the whole McLaren Racing family. I’m excited to see how he continues to grow both on and off track.”

Piastri stated: “I’m thrilled to be extending my partnership with McLaren for a few years. I wish to be preventing it out on the entrance of the grid with this staff and I’m excited by the imaginative and prescient and foundations which can be already being laid to get us there.

“The welcome that I’ve acquired and the relationships that I’ve constructed make this really feel like dwelling already. The staff’s constant dedication in me has made me really feel extremely valued and the will from the staff for me to be a part of its long-term future made this a straightforward choice.
