Swys de Bruin on Nienaber replacement: ‘You never know’

Respected coach turned media analyst Swys de Bruin believes there are such a lot of choices obtainable to interchange outgoing Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber.

Fans have been rocked on Saturday as coach Jacques Nienaber introduced he would finish his time with the Springboks after the 2023 World Cup in France.

Some would possibly query the timing given that each one eyes are on South Africa of their title defence.

RASSIE ERASMUS MIGHT LEAVE TOO?

“The last few years have been the highlight of my coaching career and it’s with a heavy heart that I’m finishing up my time with the Springboks and leaving the country for personal reasons,” mentioned Nienaber in a press release.

“The decision is made and that’s firmly behind me now. My sole focus is on seeing the Springboks defend the Rugby World Cup title this year. I will continue to channel all my energy into ensuring that we leave no stone unturned to achieve that.”

But what if it will get worse? Could Rassie Erasmus be a part of his good friend in Ireland with Leinster?

Nienaber has come a great distance

Nienaber is a physiotherapist by qualification and has labored on and off with the Springboks since 2011. In 2018, Nienaber was appointed as the total time assistant coach with the Springboks. He took over from Erasmus as coach after the World Cup win in Japan.

He has labored at Western Province, the Stormers and Munster Rugby as Defence Coach in 2016. This was all beneath Rassie Erasmus as the top coach or Director of Rugby.

Rian Oberholzer, SA Rugby CEO, mentioned: “Jacques was very open with us about the reasons for wanting to leave South Africa at the end of the season. We will confirm a successor in the title role of Springbok coach in due course – that planning will go on in the background, but Rassie Erasmus’ services are locked in to the end of 2025 at the very least.”
