Tarling dominates the time trial to become European champion

Joshua Tarling claimed the time trial title at the European Championships in Drenthe, Netherlands.

The 19-year-old, who was bronze medallist at the World Championships in Scotland final month, defeated Stefan Bissegger of Switzerland by 43 seconds with Wout van Aert of Belgium taking bronze only a fraction behind on the 29.5km course.

Stefan Kung, a pre-race favorite, crashed right into a barrier earlier than ending in eleventh place with blood pouring from his face and along with his helmet shattered.

“It was hard,” Tarling mentioned. “I felt weaker today than I did at the Worlds. “The wind was really hard, I had to hold the high power all day.”

In the girls’s race, Swiss rider Marlen Reusser claimed the title for a 3rd time. The 32-year-old completed 43 seconds forward of Britain’s Anna Henderson with Christina Schweinberger of Austria an additional second behind.
