South Africa have been set a goal of 271 runs to win their round-robin match towards Pakistan on the Cricket World Cup.
While all-rounder Marco Jansen eliminated openers Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq inside a few overs in the early levels of Pakistan’s innings, after they gained the toss and selected to bat, the remainder of their batting line-up launched a powerful restoration.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam made 50 runs, and after a profitable evaluation from the Proteas despatched him packing, Saud Shakeel (52) Shadab Khan (43) mixed in an 84-run stand for the sixth wicket.
Shamsi shines
The Proteas assault once more struggled to shake off a persistent center order, however they managed to slice off the tail, bowling out their opponents for 270 runs.
They had been led by spinner Tabraiz Shamsi, who returned 4/60, and Jansen who took 3/43.
If they win, South Africa will climb to the highest of the first-round World Cup standings, whereas a victory for Pakistan will preserve them in the hunt for the playoffs.
