Verstappen leads Red Bull 1-2 at Austrian GP Sprint

Max Verstappen led a Red Bull one-two at the Austrian Grand Prix Sprint and is the favorite Sunday’s Formula 1 GP.

Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez completed and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz completed third. Most drivers remained on intermediate tyres for the 24-lap race.

Verstappen is favorite to win the Formula 1 Austrian GP

The Formula championship chief had an early laborious battle with Pérez that noticed the pair swap positions in the course of the opening few turns, in keeping with F1.

The Red Bull driver stated: “I had a bit of a slow start today, it could have been spicy between Checo and I, but he said that he couldn’t see me and I trust his word. We’re all good, we had a chat after the race and all is cleared up, there’s no need to make a big deal about it. After we settled into the race, we knew that 24 laps on the intermediate tyres would be quite long, so it was all about managing the tyres whilst trying to drive fast, which isn’t always easy.”

Perez stated: “It was a great team result for all of us. At the beginning, Max and I got a bit closer than we should have, there was a bit of misjudgement from both sides, but we have spoken about it and it is all good.”

Verstappen is on schedule for an ideal weekend in Austria after dominating Friday qualifying, the dash qualifying shootout after which the dash race itself, in keeping with Red Bull.
